Scott Derrickson has become one of the most recognizable names in the horror genre today. Since 2000, he has written and directed five horror films while receiving writing and producing credits for several more. However, what really put him on the map was when he joined the MCU, being cast to write and direct. strange doctor. Derrickson’s first non-horror film, The day the earth stood still is more of a sci-fi drama. In a loose remake of the 1951 film of the same name, Keanu Reeves plays the role of Klaatu, an alien sent to Earth to decide whether humanity should be saved or destroyed. Jennifer Connelly also stars as Helen, a scientist who accompanies Klaatu and tries to convince him that humans are worth saving.

While the original film focused on the threat of the Cold War, this remake explores humanity’s damage to the planet, forming the basis for whether they deserve to live or die. A box office success, the film was consistently panned by critics, who called it boring and winding. Derrickson, however, received praise for his direction.

The day the earth stood still is available to stream on HBO Max.

Derrickson’s second stab in religion-based horror, deliver us from evil, stars Eric Bana as Ralph Sarchie, an NYPD sergeant who finds himself investigating cases that defy explanation. Coming to believe that demonic possession is at stake, Sarchie joins forces with a priest named Mendoza (Edgar Ramirez) to protect the city from evil.

While the film’s marketing materials claimed to be based on the real-life experiences of a police sergeant, the film is an original screenplay written by Derrickson. Its direction helps lend deliver us from evil a constant creepy atmosphere, but unfortunately the rest of the film is rather lackluster, and the slow-burn story never really pays off.

Derrickson’s feature debut and fifth entry in the hellraiser series. Hellraiser: Inferno follows Joseph Thorne (Craig Sheffer), a corrupt detective who stumbles upon Lemarchand’s infamous box at a grizzly crime scene. As is franchise lore, the box brings doom to Thorne, who becomes haunted by strange creatures and mutilated bodies.

Derrickson’s original screenplay was not intended to be a hellraiser film and had to undergo rewrites once attached to the project. Whereas Hell was dismissed by most mainstream critics, in horror circles it is considered one of the best hellraiser sequels, a franchise that has gone into decline since the release of the original cult classic.

Derrickson’s first film to be released theatrically, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, is loosely based on a real murder trial. After the exorcism of teenager Emily Rose (Jennifer Charpentier) results in his death, the priest responsible, Father Moore (Tom Wilkinson), is charged with negligent murder. The film follows Erin Bruner (Laura Linney), an attorney assigned to defend Moore in court.

Half-supernatural horror and half-legal drama, The Exorcism of Emily Rose focuses on depicting courtroom proceedings rather than chilling thrills. It still provides some unsettling moments for a PG-13 rated horror film as the story explores whether Emily was truly possessed or instead suffered from schizophrenia.

This supernatural horror film is one that marked Derrickson as a name to watch in the horror genre. When true-crime writer Ellison Oswalt (Ethan Hawke) moves with his family to a new house, he discovers a treasured collection of films showing the former inhabitants of the house being horribly murdered. Soon, a dark presence begins to haunt the new family.

Claim was well received by critics and was praised for its direction, acting, and the chilling atmosphere that Derrickson became adept at providing. The film is also well-loved by horror fans, and the snuff tapes are always mentioned when discussing the genre’s scariest moments in recent years. Lawnmower tape is particularly effective.

When it comes to staying healthy, medical experts always talk about diet and exercise. They don’t talk about sleep, but in my experience sleep has been among the best medicines. When I sleep well, I get sick less often, think better and have more energy. Studies confirm that insomnia (difficulty sleeping) is a big problem for people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and is closely linked to one of the worst symptoms, fatigue.

I have often written about sleep for diabetes publications because poor sleep worsens blood sugar control. I find that a night of poor sleep leaves me a bit depressed and anxious, which studies show is a common pattern in people with MS.

They say that MS is caused by our immune system and that sleep is vital for good immune function. Sleep is when the immune system can get to work without all the demands of waking life. People with insomnia have higher levels of inflammatory immune system proteins such as tumor necrosis factor, and inflammation is an important part of MS. So most of us can benefit from more sleep.

The problem is that MS can interfere with sleep, because we tend not to move as much while awake as healthy people. Thus, our body does not get tired, even if our brain does. And if your body isn’t tired, it won’t sleep (unless you’re on drugs). Other MS symptoms, such as pain, muscle spasms and bladder problems, can also interfere with sleep.

When we go to bed and can’t sleep, or wake up for some reason, just lying there thinking or tossing and turning won’t help. If you have good ideas that are more important than sleep, write them down so you don’t forget them! (It happens to me sometimes.)

But if you really want to fall asleep, don’t give it more than 15 or 20 minutes. If you’re still awake, get up and do something useful, or stay in bed and do something really boring. Nothing puts me to sleep faster than reading a boring book or doing a silly puzzle, but doing the dishes or doing gentle exercise seems to lead to better rest.

Vigorous exercise before bed can keep some people awake, but vigorous exercise isn’t really a thing for many people with MS. Gentle exercises – I do seated qi gong or very light (2lb) arm exercises – really help me relax and fall asleep. Sitting at a computer scrolling through social media makes it harder.

Sleep experts talk about having a bedtime ritual, which means regular behavior that tells your body “time to relax.” Often this includes turning down the lights, remembering good things that happened that day, making a list of what you will do tomorrow, some gentle stretching, maybe drinking herbal tea, warm milk, listening to music. peaceful music or relaxation sounds, or eat a snack. (No caffeine!)

I find it helpful to remember my loved ones and give thanks for what I have received. If possible, resolve small issues, such as a misunderstanding with a spouse that you might be worried about. As marriage counselors say, don’t go to bed angry.

It is important to have a quiet, dark and comfortable place to sleep. Unfortunately, not everyone has this, but if you can create such space, you’ll definitely sleep better and feel better.

It helps to have a sleep schedule. I used to work night shifts as a nurse and sometimes wonder if that contributed to my MS. Some studies have shown that shift work can affect many people’s immune systems. Now I try to fall asleep, go to bed at the same time, turn off the light after 30 or 60 minutes of reading. I try to go outside every day, especially on sunny days, because the daytime sun helps people sleep.

This schedule has worked very well, except that I have to get up to urinate (actually autocath myself) once a night. Then I go back to bed, but if sleep doesn’t come quickly (within 5 minutes) I get up and stretch, write or do the dishes.

And the naps? Nap time is a ritual in many cultures, and for people with MS, napping can be unavoidable. Short naps (called power naps) are great, and you might even be able to take them during a lunch break at work. I also like longer naps, but some scientists say long naps can interfere with nighttime sleep. I haven’t noticed this problem, but maybe you can see how they work for you.

I advise not to use sleeping pills. They’re not widely prescribed anymore, because they can leave people as tired as if they hadn’t slept, and they’re not safe. Especially for older people with MS, they cause too much risk of falling when we get up while still under their influence. This applies to cannabis as well as prescription drugs.

At this point in my life, sleep has become one of my favorite things. No stress, no pain. I imagine all my little cells going around repairing the damage and preparing my body for the next day. And I look forward to dreams, like trips to another world or a big movie. Sometimes in dreams I have my full abilities back, sometimes not, but they are always interesting and often teach important lessons.

We live in an anti-sleep society, where we are expected to be productive all the time. But don’t believe this hype. Sleep is great medicine.

Olsen reprises her role as Wanda Maximoff, who wields powerful chaos magic as the Scarlet Witch. She first appeared as a cameo in 2014 Captain America: The Winter Soldierentering Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity Warand Avengers: Endgame.

“It’s now been eight years for me with Marvel, and I think I feel so grateful to still be here and to have made this character what she has become,” Olsen said. “But I’m also grateful to [producer] Kevin Feige for giving me the opportunity to do Wanda Vision and for coming up with the idea.”

The nine-episode series, the first to air on Disney+, ended with Wanda unleashing her hex on the spellbinding town of Westview, New Jersey. Seeing through the manipulations of the witch Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), Wanda dissolved her magical reality, erasing the perfect life she envisioned with Vision and their twin sons. (In a post-credits scene leading up to Doctor Strange 2Wanda is seen studying dark magic as her children cry out from somewhere in the multiverse.)

With Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stühlbarg and Rachel McAdams, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters exclusively on May 6.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is only about 1 week away from release. The anticipation grows even more exciting as fans come up with theories about the film and theaters nationwide take over with decorations from the film.

GSC Cinemas in Mid Valley is known for its effort and creativity in decorating the place when Marvel blockbusters hit theaters. In December 2021, the team embellished the cinema entrance with Spiderman: No Way Home elements and posters in anticipation of the film.

Either way, it’s definitely both shocking and flattering to see foreign media having their eyes on us when it comes to creativity!

But that’s not all.

Malaysia overtakes America

Fans around the world have also expressed their amusement in the comment sections and praised the Multiverse of Madness designs and decorations that are currently on display at GSC Mid Valley Cinemas.

Meanwhile, Malaysian fans also took the opportunity to praise the local cinema for their efforts in promoting the film.

Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be released in the US on May 6, but fans in Malaysia will have the luxury of seeing the film on May 4 – 2 days before the worldwide release!

After months of waiting, the first MCU movie of 2022 is almost here – and it’s sure to be epic. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesscoming on the heels of Spider-Man: No Coming Home, has to be one of Marvel Studios’ most ambitious offerings yet. Just look at the slew of major characters featured in this new sequel poster.

With only 10 days – yes, really – until it hits theaters, Marvel shared one last poster for Doctor Strange 2 which spotlights Doctor Strange, his friends and foes, not to mention their many variants that will feature in the film. While most of them are decipherable, some numbers are deliberately hidden. So, fan sleuths, do your thing.

This latest poster highlights how much more of an ensemble piece this one will be than the first. strange doctor, with star appeal top billing crediting Benedict Cumberbatch (Stephen Strange), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Karl Mordo), Benedict Wong (Wong), Xochitl Gomez (America Chavez), Michael Stuhlbarg ( Nicodemus West) and Rachel McAdams (Christine Palmer).

While the others appeared prominently in the promo, Stuhlbarg’s credit here is a bit of a surprise as it suggests he’ll have a larger role in the movie than expected. It seems likely that West, a former neurosurgeon rival to Strange, could be Christine’s husband, as trailers have seen her walking down the aisle in white.

And, remember, these guys are just the tip of the iceberg as we’re expecting a slew of familiar face cameos from across the Marvel movie multiverse. So far Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and the Illuminati have been confirmed, but bets are good there will be plenty more where they came from.

4 Drag Me to Hell (2009)

When Multiverse of Madness was billed as Marvel Studios’ first full-fledged horror film, some fans were skeptical, as it will be limited by the MCU’s PG-13 standard. But Raimi has already proven his ability to helm a hugely effective PG-13 rated horror film.

Within the limits of a PG-13 rating, drag me to hell has all the jump scares, dark humor and disturbing imagery that Raimi fans have come to expect.

3 Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011)

Elizabeth Olsen is set to reprise her Marvel role as Wanda Maximoff in Multiverse of Madnessfollowing the dark turn taken by his character Wanda Vision.

Before the strange doctor the sequel is coming to multiplexes, it’s worth checking out Olsen’s first movie role in Martha Marcy May Marlene. She embodies a young woman who escapes from a sect and suffers from psychological consequences. This film explores the kind of darker territory that Multiverse of Madness promises to dive into.

2 Spider-Man: No Coming Home (2021)

While the first strange doctor solo movie came out over half a decade ago, Cumberbatch has reprized the role in a bunch of other Marvel movies in the meantime, from Thor: Ragnarok together avengers movies to his last appearance in the MCU, Spider-Man: No Coming Home.

In the hugely ambitious and delightfully self-aware Spidey trio, Strange unwittingly invites heroes and villains from other universes (in other words, other franchises) into the MCU. This movie offered a taste of the multiversal shenanigans to come.

1 Evil Dead 2 (1987)

Kevin Feige said Empire“We want [Multiverse of Madness] to be a Sam Raimi movie. We were giving notes like: “This action is cool – you are competing with avengers and Spider Man, no problem – but don’t forget the Sam Raimi parts.’ You’ll see just how great Sam Raimi is, in a way that will make fans of Evil Dead 2 very happy.”

It’s an extremely enticing prospect for Raimi fans. Evil Dead 2 is a comedic remake of its predecessor and one of the craziest horror films ever made. No idea is too there for the world to Evil Dead 2. With a bit of luck, Multiverse of Madness can keep that promise.
